A PZ Cussons Company

CoolWorld and PZ Cussons

PZ Cussons LogoPZ Cussons' history dates back to the 1800’s, when the minds of two extraordinary people – George Paterson and George Zochonis – met in Sierra Leone and embarked on a journey of exploration and opportunity. In 1899, Paterson and Zochonis open their first branch office in Nigeria – a country which would become our biggest market employing the majority of our people.

The post war peace of 1945 brought a boom era to Africa. As one African nation after another prepared for independence in readiness to play a full role in the political and economic arena of a rapidly changing world, change was in the air.

Conscious of African aspirations, PZ Cussons recognised the need for African countries to become self-sufficient, to industrialise and rely less on imported goods. Awareness of this new climate led Paterson Zochonis to take decisions which shaped the company’s history in Africa. In 1948, The Company opened its first soap factory in Nigeria at Aba. This venture marked PZ Cussons entrance into manufacturing and the soap business.

In 1971, fresh out of Nigeria’s independence, PZ Cussons launched the Thermocool brand and began the trading of fridges and freezers from a retail store in Broad Street.

In 2007, Nigeria’s premium retail electrical store, ‘Coolworld’ opened in Victoria Island, Lagos selling Thermocool, Haier Thermocool and Thermocool Engineering products. Further stores, quickly opened across the country giving the CoolWorld brand a total store footprint of 7. Store locations are available on our store locator page.
